Girl Power in Jordan "Zataari & Azraq Refugee Centers"
01 August 2019 Girl Power Organisation with the collaboration of Kick Start Joy organisation and hummel International could manage to run football training camps in two refugee centres in Jordan.
Zaatari is a refugee camp in Jordan, located 10 kilometres east of Mafraq Syrian border, which has gradually evolved into a permanent settlement; it is the world’s largest camp for Syrian refugees. It was first opened on 28 July 2012 to host Syrians fleeing the violence in the ongoing Syrian Civil War that erupted in. The population of refugees living in the centre has recently reached 80,000 people, 49% of the population are women & girls.
Azraq refugee camp is a refugee camp, located near Azraq, Jordan, built for refugees of the Syrian Civil War. It first opened in April 2014. As of March 2016, it had over 32,000 refugees in it; by August 2019 that number was over 35,000.
According to the recent Euro commission report, 48% of the population from both refugee centres are children, who have very limited or nearly no access to social activities and education in the centres especially women and girls.
The objective of the Organisation Girl Power for organising this project was to kick starts it's first activities as a pilot project for the Syrian refugee kids with the focus on activities for Girls.
As a result, the 5 days training camp and Girl Power school were successful and many girls participated in the event. The request from all the participants was to organise a continues events for them at the centres where they can learn and play.
